When first arriving in Spain, food was one of my main concerns. My family has deemed me a notoriously picky eater, so much of the plane ride here was spent contemplating what I would find to eat.
Of course, there would be a lot of overlap in the available foods here, but I wasn't sure what I'd find (in the future, I'll be doing more research before travelling!). How true would my parents' predictions ring?
Setting off with the mission of trying everything, I began doing exactly that - boldly starting with octopus, which was included in a traditional Spanish dish called paella, which usually contains 1-3 different meats (chickea and shrimp/prawn are the most common), rice, peas, corn, peppers and a thick sauce that contributes a lot to the taste without changing the texture of the foods within. Overall, this was one of my favorite dishes I've tried!
Staying with the theme of seafood, I also tried pescaítos fritos (fried fish), and calamares (fried squid) with lime. I also ate a squid croquet!
Huevos rotos became my favorite food to make at home.
