I never expected to visit Morocco while studying abroad in Brazil. Do you know what continent each of these countries is on?
There is a two-week break during my program in Brazil. My best friends from high school, who are both named Ashley, decided to plan a trip to Morocco together with me. I have actually been to Morocco once before. This time, I got to spend an entire week in Morocco! My trip started off by flying from Brazil to the United Kingdom, and then on to Spain, and then Morocco.
Morocco is a country located in Northern Africa, just south of Spain. Most people are Muslim and speak the languages of French and Moroccan Arabic, called Darija. Morocco has a population of about 35 million people. The country's climate differs drastically. One half of the country is quite temperate and sub-tropical. The other half, separated by the Atlas mountains, is where the Sahara Desert begins.
In Morocco, my friends and I were able to visit the awesome cities of Rabat and Meknes. Each day, we spent time drinking Moroccan mint tea, atay, trying new Moroccan foods such as tajine, and walking around ancient medinas and crowded, colorful souks to try and find cool souvenirs.
