People mostly speak Bahasa Melayu (Malay) in school. However, depending on their background, many students speak Mandarin, Tamil (spoken in India and Sri Lanka), or Jahut (the language of the local Orang Asli tribe, who are like the Native Americans of Malaysia). Many students also learn English in school.
People use the Malaysian Ringgit (RM). One ringgit is worth about 25 cents. Four ringgit equal one U.S. dollar.
One bottle of water costs about 1 RM, or 0.25 USD.
I ate satay chicken (grilled chicken on a stick, coated in spicy peanut sauce) with my students for dinner. It was delicious!
I listened to new American pop songs to stay current with American culture. I also listened to a lot of K-Pop (Korean pop music) with my students—mostly BTS, a famous boy band from South Korea. If you want to try listening to BTS, I recommend "Make It Right," an Ed Sheeran collaboration, or "Boy with Luv," a Halsey collaboration.
