The weather in Rovaniemi is extremely cold that it is nearly too cold to even go outside! Because Rovaniemi is in the north of Finland, the temperature is significantly lower than Helsinki's weather. In Europe, we use a different temperature system, called Celsius. In Fahrenheit, negative nine degrees is too cold to go outside for students to play, because, in Celsius, it is negative twenty-two!
I saw so many reindeer! In Rovaniemi, the people of the north are known as Sami people - who are part of an indigenous culture, hunt reindeer for their families to eat. Indigenous means, originating or occurring as a native in a particular place.
I was able to see a quick glimpse of the Northern Lights! In Finland, the Northen Lights are known as "Aurora!" I have an app on my phone that tells me when the Northern Lights are visible from the sky! The Northern are a natural light display in the in the sky, and are often beautiful, neon, green and purple sparks of light that spread throughout the entire atmosphere!
