Pizza Adventure in Rome: My Favorite Slice

How is the food prepared?:

The pizza shop had a sign that said, “72 hours to prepare; two minutes to eat.” This means the dough is made three days in advance so it has time to rise. After the dough has risen, it is spread out on a large tray and baked in the oven. Then, the toppings are added and it is baked again so it can be served hot. One special topping in Rome is buffalo mozzarella, a cheese made from buffalo milk!

Is this food connected to the local environment? How?:

Yes, this pizza is connected to the environment in Italy. Many of the ingredients come from nearby farms. Buffalo mozzarella is made from water buffalo milk from southern Italy. Truffles grow in forests in parts of Italy and are collected by trained dogs. They are a type of edible fungus that grows underground and are often quite expensive. The fresh and local ingredients help make Italian pizza taste so special.
