A Day in my Life as a Seabird Scientist

The band is light and durable, so the bird doesn’t even notice it’s there.

All of this is over in just twenty short minutes. Bye, gulls! Back to the boat to go check in on our next nest!

All the data we collected today will help us understand the health of the seabird population in this marine protected area. Hopefully, our results will help important decision-makers better protect our vulnerable marine ecosystems.

This isn’t the only way to help protect the oceans…you can too! If you want to learn more about birds or other ocean critters, try joining a local birding club, downloading apps such as Seek or Merlin to help you identify species or buying a guidebook to take on a nature walk. You can help protect the ocean by reducing your plastic waste or teaching your friends and family about important topics like climate change, pollution and overfishing. Thank you so much for your help in the field today, and thank you for helping take care of our seas!
