Traveler Bio

Zdravo! Hello! My name is Julie Larick, and I’m from a suburb of Cleveland, Ohio. I graduated from The College of Wooster in May 2024, where I double-majored in English Literature and Environmental Studies. Since childhood, I’ve been captivated by literature, writing short stories and poems in my free time. In recent years, I’ve submitted my poetry to literary journals, with a few successfully published! When I’m not writing, I love reading, hiking, and volunteering for literary magazines, helping other writers showcase their work.

My passion for Serbia stems from my grandparents, who immigrated to Ohio from Serbia in the 1950s. Their stories of childhood and immigration have always fascinated me and made me determined to learn Serbian. For my college senior independent study thesis, I interviewed my grandmother and wrote over 40 poems based on her life and immigration. This project inspired me to apply for a Fulbright English Teaching Assistantship, allowing me to explore my family history and expand my poetry collection. I now teach English Literature at the University of Novi Sad, located in Northern Serbia, near Hungary’s border—right in the Vojvodina region my grandparents once called home!
