Native shorebird species and rare flowers all flourish in Serbia's flat and mountainous regions. Two nature reserves, called Golija-Studenica and Bačko Podunavlje, were determined by U.N.E.S.C.O. to be areas of extreme importance because of their diverse animal and plant life. The Danube River, which marks the borders between Hungary and Croatia, was even named "the Serbian Amazon"!
