Interview with a Fifth-Grade Student

Introduction:

Hello, my name is Thato Thoka. I am 10 years old, and I am a grade five student. 

What do you eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner?:

For breakfast, I eat bread or cornflakes. I eat lunch at school, and we have samp and beans. For dinner, I eat pap and meat.

What is your house like?:

My house is one floor. Inside the house, we have a kitchen, a room to watch TV (living room), three bedrooms and a garage. The toilet is outside. In the yard, my mom has a garden, and we have fruit trees that grow mangos.

What chores do you have at home?:

At home, I help my mom clean the yard and the house. I will help her wash dishes, and sometimes, I help cook dinner.

What jobs do your parents have?:

My dad lives in the city for work. My mom stays at home with us and works at the Drop in Centre.

What time does school start, and what time do you go home?:

School starts at 7:20 a.m., and I finish at 2:30 p.m.

How do you get to school? Are you allowed to go to school by yourself?:

I walk to school in the morning by myself. My school is a five minute walk from my house.

Where do you eat lunch? What is your favorite food?:

I eat lunch at school. They give us lunch every day.
