Daily, I do not travel very far. It is important that I spend a lot of time in my local community. On a normal week, the farthest that I travel is to my shopping town which is about 10 miles away. It takes me about 45 minutes on a taxi.
As a Peace Corps Volunteer, I stay in one place for two years which allows me to become completely immersed in the local culture. Due to this, I have developed deep connections with the community, learning so much about the traditions of the Sepedi people. I had the chance to travel to other provinces in South Africa, such as Gauteng, Mpumalanga and the Eastern Cape. This has shown me that there is so much diversity within South Africa itself, as it is home to many different tribes. Something I have learned about South Africa throughout this journey is that most of the people are very kind and welcoming. Everywhere I have gone, people have welcomed me with open arms and were excited to teach me about their traditions and culture. South Africa has the nickname of "Rainbow Nation" because of the diversity that is embraced throughout the country.
