The weather this week, as it is most weeks, was very hot! It usually stays around 95 degrees Fahrenheit on an average day. It’s also very humid in Malaysia, so the heat is accompanied by some moisture in the air. Basically, you step outside and start sweating!
Unfortunately, in my city named Alor Setar, there are several stray dogs and cats that live in the streets. There are also a lot of geckos hanging around buildings in Malaysia, but they’re pretty cool because they eat the pesky bugs.
The school where I go to work is situated near rice paddy fields. These are the sites where rice is being farmed and produced. The fields are beautiful and green, adding vibrant color to the landscape. However, a common practice in Malaysia is burning the fields after harvest in order to clear the land for double-cropping. So, this week, I observed the burning of a portion of a rice paddy field, something you definitely don’t see every day!
