Traveler Bio

¡Mucho gusto (nice to meet you)! My name is Kate McArthur, and I am a 23-year-old living and serving as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Guatemala. My parents are international school teachers, so I grew up moving all around the world and knew I wanted to keep exploring our beautiful planet after finishing college. My mom’s family is from Hudson, Wisconsin, and my dad is Australian. However, I mostly grew up in South and Southeast Asia, graduating from high school in Bangkok, Thailand. I studied psychology and legal studies at Scripps College, a historically women's college, in Claremont, California. I also took some public health courses in college, which got me eager to further explore the field of maternal and child health.

My grandparents met in Colombia as Peace Corps Volunteers way before I was born, so I grew up hearing all of their amazing stories and adventures. I also decided to join the Peace Corps because I want to become really good at Spanish, have another experience of living in a different country, and learn more about health! In my free time, I love running, playing rugby, playing fútbol (soccer), and doing anything active or outdoors with friends. I got to hike my first volcano here in Guatemala, Santa María, and it was a blast! I cannot wait to get to know you all and see what adventures you go on throughout the school year.

Peace Corps Volunteers like me live and work side by side with community members around the world, collaborating on locally prioritized projects, building relationships, exchanging cultures and knowledge, and helping transform lives for generations. Learn more by clicking here.
