Hi! My name is Katey, and I am a global health researcher on a Fulbright grant. I am living in Namibia for nine months, and I'm so excited to share this beautiful country with you.
I stay in Namibia's capital, Windhoek (sounds like "vind-hook," as Namibia was a German colony), but travel to rural communities for my research. I look at a disease called tuberculosis (TB for short) and how communities think about TB and protect themselves. I hope this project finds new ideas to keep communities healthy.
I am from Albuquerque, New Mexico and grew up admiring other cultures. In college, I studied abroad in Namibia's neighbor, Botswana, and fell in love with the African continent. My time in Botswana encouraged me to join the Peace Corps in South Africa, where I began studying TB. I loved working in global health and got a Masters of Public Health (MPH) degree from the University of Arizona to start my career. Shortly after graduating, I was awarded a Fulbright grant to Namibia, and here I am! As a New Mexican, I feel right at home in the desert, but I am always learning from this unique African country.
I am excited to share Namibia's unique history, cultures and geography with you!
