Ahoj (Hello)! My name is Katherine Winner, but I go by Katie. I am 22 years old, and up until a week ago, I lived in Cincinnati, Ohio. It's a bustling city that is known for Skyline chili, Graeter’s ice cream and the Cincinnati Reds--the first professional baseball team. I decided to pack my bags and move 4,608 miles from my hometown to a small city in the Czech Republic called České Budějovice. Not sure how to pronounce it? Neither was I at first, but it sounds like "ches-ke boo-dye-yaw-vi-tse," and after a little bit of practice you will start to sound like a native!
I am here to do scientific research on a Fulbright grant. Picture a white lab coat and microscope! When I am not in the lab I enjoy reading and partaking in the Czech national past-time: hiking. I love the outdoors and staying active, so the beautiful landscape and Czech attitude makes my lovely town the perfect home base for all my travels.
I am excited to practice a new language and learn about the culture of another country. I hope you are just as excited as I am to learn about life in a foreign country. I look forward to showing you everything!
