So far, living and working in Mexico City has shown me how global goals can come to life at a local level. Every morning, I commute through busy streets and see people from all walks of life alongside international company offices, such as HSBC and BBVA. I am reminded that Mexico’s workforce is becoming increasingly more connected to the world. My internship experience as part of the Fulbright Binational Business Program has helped me understand how professionals and organizations link their work to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
For my internship, I work with an organization whose mission is to shape citizens from a young age through the power of play. They do this through programs that use sports, arts, science experiments, cultural activities, digital literacy and other subjects to engage children, teens and adults. For example, the sports program teaches respect, teamwork, empathy and gender equality while integrating the SDGs. The science program inspires curiosity, creativity and problem-solving while encouraging learners to see themselves as agents of change.
