Our News

Many groups practice sports in the early evening or after dark, because without the sun the temperature becomes cool and better for outdoor activity.

Other news from this week:

When working at the turtle sanctuary, I noticed fungi were invading sea turtle nests and killing embryos (babies still in the shell). I am eager to learn more about fungal infection of nest sites in the hopes that this study will generate information that helps reduce this problem. To better understand fungal presence in sea turtle nests, I have been working with Ain and Wannie, two students from Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), to isolate fungi from the sand samples collected from the sea turtle sanctuary. Isolating the fungi will allow me to study the presence and type of fungi observed at the turtle sanctuary. Correlating these observations to ecological characteristics may allow us to learn which areas of the beach are prone to fungal infection and are thus unsuitable for nesting.
