This week I traveled to Ganghaw-gun - Gilsang-myeon, a small island near the city of Incheon about two hours from Seoul. The island is very different from city life here in Seoul. I visited what could be considered the countryside for the first time during my trip and discovered quickly that people here hardly speak English at all! In fact, unlike the city of Seoul, the stores here do not even accept foreign credit cards. It was an entirely different experience to be so far away from the tall buildings of Seoul.
So far, I have explored the majority of the large city of Seoul! There is so much to see that it has taken up so much of my time. In the upcoming weeks, I hope to travel far down south to the cities of Busan and Daegu. Then, I plan on visiting the country of Japan for a weekend trip since I am so close. While Seoul and Incheon have been the places I explored the most, look out for more trips in the future!
The bus and the subway have been my main means of transportation this week. I am finally getting the hang of using my metro apps and my bus apps to help me keep track of where I'm going around the city. In order to get to the island, I had to travel on a bus meant for tourist groups with other members of my program.
