Living away from home has been an unforgettable experience. Within the span of three months, I adapted to a new environment that was filled with many surprising obstacles. For example, I now know how to interact with different people, recycle, travel and use technology in a country quite different from my own. Although it was hard at the beginning and I was sometimes frustrated at myself for not understanding everything, I learned to be patient. Overcoming these obstacles made me a stronger person who is a braver explorer.
Now that my study abroad experience is coming to a close, it is time to say goodbye. Although the thought of leaving Korea and all my friends here is surreal to me, I am thankful for everything I have learned. Throughout this experience, I’ve met many new friends from all over the world and I now know so much more about Korean culture. I also have more restaurants and places to add to my favorites list. Through the Language Exchange program, I met a friend who taught me about Korean life while I was able to help her practice speaking English. Despite saying goodbye, I know that this will not be the last time I see them.
Leaving Korea and going back to New York is going to be bittersweet. I will miss all the memories I have made in Korea.
