I grew up on a goat farm in Texas and now I live in one of the biggest cities in the world – New York City. You may have seen the iconic I heart NYC T-shirts or have seen movies that take place in the big city – but let me tell you. It really is a labyrinth of bustling streets overflowing with pizza shops, Statue of Liberty tourist gift shops, comedy clubs, opera houses, and more.
How have I come to find myself living here? Well I moved to NYC via India. After I finished my undergraduate degree in History and Languages I moved to Kerala, India for a year on a research scholarship. I lived in a monastery with priests and monks and learned the language of the St. Thomas Christians, called Syriac. When it came time to pick a place to live, my husband and I decided that NYC was the best fit for both of us to pursue careers that we loved.
Now I work as an analyst at a Real Estate Firm and my husband works at a Publishing House. On a typical day I take a train called the Light Rail up the New Jersey Coast, then hop of a train that goes under the Hudson River, called the PATH, then board the MTA Subway line that goes through the city.
I am still figuring out how to navigate around this big city and am thrilled to sharing some of travels with you. Since the summer here is coming to an end, I look forward to showing you pictures of the changing fall leaves in central park and teaching a little bit about my research.
