What main languages are spoken here?:

Spanish is the main language spoken in Ecuador! There's an interesting influence of indigenous words woven into the language and some vocabulary differences, but for the most part, it's the same Spanish as in other parts of Latin America. Ecuador is also known for having a fairly easy-to-learn accent and slow speakers, so it's been a great place to learn!

The main language spoken in my area is Spanish, but it's also worth noting that there are more than twenty different indigenous languages represented in Ecuador throughout the country. Almost everyone speaks Spanish as well, but not always. My Spanish teacher during my training was from an indigenous community near the city of Otavalo and spoke Kichwa, Spanish, French, and a little English and German as well.

English is hardly spoken, especially in more rural areas. Students often have an English class in school, but they just learn the basics, like how we learn the basics of a second language in the United States.

What type of money is used here?:

This is really interesting because they use the US dollar here! To make a long story short, Ecuador experienced an economic crisis in 2000 and decided to switch its currency from the old Ecuadorian sucre to the US dollar.
