Meeting the White Storks of Morocco

I just heard a really loud clacking noise and felt confused. Once I realized it was coming from the big birds on the roof, I thought, “That’s a big bird! What type of bird makes that kind of noise?” I found out what they were called later. Now, I am used to hearing them from a distance, and it feels normal.

Where does it live?:

White storks live in open fields and farms, but they also live in towns and cities. They like to build their nests high up on rooftops or in trees so they stay safe. They don’t like the cold, so they fly to Morocco during the spring and summer and live in the warmer parts of Africa in the winter.

How does it use its environment to survive?:

White storks use their long legs to walk through grass and shallow water to find insects and small animals to eat during the day. Tall buildings, poles and trees give them safe places to build nests.

What can harm this creature or plant? Are we worried about it?:

White storks can get hurt if they don’t have safe places to build their nests outside of cities.
