Recent changes to the environment in Southern Spain

Introduction:

Spain has been one of the European countries that has faced the most impact from climate change. Located as it is in the south of Europe and so close to the ocean has greatly influenced life in Spain since the beginning, but looking into the future, the country has started to take precautions against the weather-based threats. I have seen this firsthand with the torrential downpour of rain in Valencia on October 29th. Measures have been taken all throughout the country, but mostly in southern cities like Seville.

What makes this environment special or different?:

Living in Seville, I have learned a lot about the history of the beautiful Guadalquivir River that flows right through the city and the influence that the ocean ports had on Spain in terms of trade and military alliances. This has changed over time: now, Spaniards and tourists view the river as an opportunity to canoe, have a picnic by the water or to take the boat to Northern Africa. This river also has a great influence on the natural environment of Spain.

The tropical-like environment in Seville is thanks to the ocean nearby, and the temperatures that make the fall feel like a New England summer. With this, the river has become a cooling spot, where people are not allowed to swim, but they can enjoy the fresh air and ambiance.
