Our News

On one hand, I got to see some of my favorite animals up close, but on the other, I was able to eat enough delicious steak that my stomach hurt.

What did I read this week?:

I am trying to read more Japanese books, but as they are almost all at a higher Japanese level than I can comfortably read, I have started reading the news in Japanese. The stories have been simplified down so that basic readers can understand them more easily.

What games or sports did I play this week?:

This week, I went bouldering. For those of you who don't know, bouldering is rock climbing, but without a harness or rope. Instead of climbing really high, you climb shorter walls with soft mats underneath in case you fall. It’s a great workout for your whole body, especially your arms and core. I went with a few friends from my dorm, and we tried out different climbing routes, each marked with different colors to show how hard they are. Some were really tricky and made me fall a few times, but it was super fun!

Other news from this week:

I recently went to the club fair at my college, where more than 300 clubs had tables set up in the school courtyard. Most of them were really excited to recruit me; I was swarmed almost the whole day! I think their clubs get a funding bonus if an international student joins. There were so many to choose from: scuba diving, sailing, windsurfing and every sport you can think of, even American football! I still haven’t decided which one I should join.
