Traveler Bio

Moin! (Hello!) My name is Lauren Chumbley, and I’m traveling to Germany this year to help teach English to high schoolers. I’m living in a small city called Greifswald, which is way up in northeastern Germany, right by the Baltic Sea!

I grew up in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, and went to college at The University of Alabama, so it will be a big change to go to a much colder place in the north. I studied English and German in college because I love reading, writing, and learning other languages, and I want to be a teacher. When I was younger, I didn’t have the chance to study German, but I was curious about the language and its literature, so I started learning it in college.

Last summer, I studied abroad in Berlin, which is the capital of Germany. It was very exciting to practice speaking the language and live in such a big, vibrant city. I realized I wanted to stay abroad for longer! That was when I decided to apply for the Fulbright English Teaching Assistant Program, which is how I’m traveling to Germany this year. When I’m not going on adventures, I like to play the piano, write poems, or curl up somewhere cozy to bury my nose in a book.

I can't wait to see where this school year takes us, and I’m overjoyed to share my travels with you!
