This week was quite hot and humid. I arrived at Haneda airport on Sept 10, 2019, the day after typhoon "Faxai" passed through Tokyo. I was not prepared for the humidity from the tropical storm, since I had been living in southern California, which has a dry desert climate.
Compared to Los Angeles, which cools down in September to 70-75°F and where high temperatures usually drop ten degrees at night, it was around 76-85°F in Tokyo consistently throughout the entire day and night. I lived on the 11th floor of my dorm building, and for safety measures, my dorm window could only be slid open about four inches. That small window gap was sadly not enough for decent air flow. I was practically forced to leave my dorm room A.C. on all day to stop myself from sweating.
When I walked outside on sunny days, I often used a parasol, or a "sun umbrella," which is commonly sold and used in Asian countries to help protect the skin from intense direct sunlight and offer shade. In this hot and humid climate, the shade is noticeably a few degrees cooler.
