Albanian and Serbian are the main languages here, but last time I forgot to mention that there are Turkish communities in Kosovo, too. Several Turkish words are used in everyday conversation.
The euro is the currency used in Kosovo.
A bottle of water costs only about 20 cents! Can you believe it?
I just finished making a pot of vegetable stew. The dish has become one of my favorite go-to meals because it's so simple and hearty and warm— the perfect thing to help you survive winter.
First, I go to the vegetable stand and pick up one onion, four carrots, a bag of spinach, two tomatoes, one pepper and a mushroom. In total, this typically costs me just over $2.00. I put some olive oil in a big pot, turn the heat on medium and then toss in my chopped-up vegetables. It takes about ten minutes of prep time (mostly cutting vegetables) and then another 30 minutes on the heat. I'm limited in what I can cook because I don't have a microwave or an oven. I make absolutely everything on the two stovetop burners I have in my kitchen. This dish is perfect for that. I typically pair it with some fresh bread from the bakery found below my apartment.
