Have you heard the phrase, “reduce, reuse, recycle”? This is what you should keep in mind when buying new things or getting rid of old ones. First, you want to try to reduce the amount of waste you create. Think about single-use items, which are things that you only use once and then immediately throw away: plastic lids, straws, plastic wrap, plastic utensils, etc. Next, if you can’t avoid using something, you want to reuse things. For example, use a plastic cup as your junk drawer. Finally, if you can’t reuse something, you should recycle it, rather than throw it away. However, you have to check if it can be recycled. Not every kind of material can be recycled!
When I moved to Russia, I had to think about how I reduce, reuse and recycle. Since I arrived here with few possessions, I am trying to reuse as much as possible (like the plastic containers that my food comes in) and avoid buying certain things (like ziplock bags!). Finally, I had to learn where I can recycle what I can’t reuse!
