A traditional form of Portuguese music is called fado which uses a special Portuguese guitar. Typically, fado is sung by a woman, and the lyrics are very sad, because they talk about love or how things used to be in the past.
Many of the women entrepreneurs that I spoke with started their own companies based on their knowledge in a certain area. Some had businesses selling products, such as jewelry, swimwear or chocolate. Others had consulting businesses in areas such as health sciences or water management. The biggest problem that entrepreneurs faced was finding the right people to hire as employees or trying to balance work with taking care of kids or the elderly.
UPLift Prompt: How can we help women entrepreneurs get the word out that they're looking to hire people? What could we invent to help these female business people monitor their young children or elderly parents at home while they are still at their work locations?
Many Portuguese travel around Europe to Spain, Italy and France. Lots of people that I talked to would really like to visit the United States or travel to other countries where they speak Portuguese like Angola and Mozambique.
