¡Hola! ¿Qué tal? That’s how we greet each other in Madrid, Spain! My name is Leila, and I’m so excited to be your Reach the World traveler! I’m from a big, busy city called New York City. Have you heard of it? It’s filled with tall buildings, yellow taxis, and lots of fun places to visit. Back in New York, I used to teach third grade students just like you!
One of the reasons I wanted to come to Spain is because I love helping students who are learning a new language. Imagine you were surrounded by classmates who didn’t speak the same language as you - pretty tricky, right? Learning about English and Math can be hard, but it’s even harder in a language you don’t understand. That’s how some of my students felt back in New York, but we worked together, and by the end of the year, they were speaking English like pros!
Although a new adventure can be super exciting, it can also be a bit nerve-wracking. Even though I’m here to teach, I’m also learning something new every day—Spanish! It can be a little hard sometimes, but I’m not giving up, just like I know you don’t give up when you try something new.
