Bom dia! (Good morning!) Today, I want to share a bit about Brazil, Brazil's culture and Brazilian healthcare.

Brazil is the largest country in South America, and it is known for its extreme biodiveristy. It is famous for its beautiful landscapes, ranging from waterfalls to the Iguaçu Falls to beaches to the city of Rio de Janeiro to the Amazon Rainforest, where our research takes place!

Many famous traditions here span the entire country. For example, you might have heard of Carnaval, a week-long parade celebrating joy, music and cultural expression. This tradition is tied to the Christian tradition of Lent, starting before this 40 day fasting period, but it was not until the addition of drumming, dancing and colorful costumes from African and indigenous influences that it became the Carnaval that we know and love today. Luckily for me, Carnaval starts today! I will be sure to update all of you on my experiences when you hear from me next!

Brazil has universal healthcare system, called S.U.S., that provides free healthcare to all, including imigrants like me! S.U.S. will provides citizens with doctors visits, hospital care, vaccines and surgeries. S.U.S.
