I also had the support of a community organization while I was in London called the Foundation for International Education that supports students that are studying abroad from all over the world.
Every city produces waste in the form of trash and sewage, or things like cans and bottles. I learned after I got here that London has some of the most sustainable policies in trying to reduce the impact of the city on the climate and to reduce pollution.
Every big city has more space covered with buildings and pavement than it has green and open spaces. For this reason, big cities invest in open spaces like parks and green spaces so that people can still enjoy nature even when they're in the city.
Finally, London has many students that come from around the world to study and to live here temporarily, and they may miss their homes or need help adjusting to the British way of life. The Foundation for International Education runs my program and provided a number of services to help students like me enjoy their time in London.
One of the things I noticed is that the city has very organized trash pickup. People in London sort their trash by both recycling and food waste. Every day, items left on the sidewalk by different stores gets picked up by a truck. In residential areas, people take out the trash to the basement or to the trash bin near them and leave it there. The trucks come early in the morning and take the trash to be sorted and recycled into new products.
The place where I stayed was right near a very big park called Hyde Park. There are lots of green spaces and trees nearby, and it was in walking distance from my flat.
