Ciao a tutti, mi chiamo Lillian! I am 23 years old and currently living in Siena, Italy. I was born and raised in Savannah, Georgia, and later attended Bryn Mawr College near Philadelphia. I loved growing up in Savannah because it was almost always warm and sunny, and I enjoyed living near Philadelphia as well—it was my first real experience with snowy winters. In high school, I became very interested in chemistry and science more broadly while also discovering how much I enjoyed my Spanish and French classes. In college, I realized that the brain is the most fascinating part of the human body, and I decided to study neuroscience.
I eventually switched my language focus to Italian and completed a double major in Neuroscience and Italian. I knew I wanted to continue doing research after college and discovered the Fulbright Program, which has allowed me to study neurodegenerative diseases here in Italy. I absolutely love living in Italy and practicing my Italian every day. The town where I live is quite small, and there are no cars allowed in the city center, which makes evening walks for gelato especially enjoyable. When I am not at the hospital researching Parkinson’s disease or multiple sclerosis, I am usually cooking with my roommates or going to Pilates classes at my gym. I have also had the chance to travel a bit—to Rome, Florence, Berlin, and London so far. I am excited to stay in touch with you and share many more stories about my life in Italy.
