The first part of the week I was in Cuenca, and then I returned to Quito. Cuenca is 189 miles south of Quito, if you're flying.
In January I flew from New York City to Quito. The cities are 2,838 miles apart. My hometown, Colorado Springs, is 3,169 miles away from Quito.
I take the public bus to get to school every day. It costs $0.35 to ride it from Lumbisí, where I live, to Cumbáya, where my university is located. When I came back from Cuenca, I took a plane since the flight was only fifty minutes. I could have taken the bus instead, but it would have been nine hours!
I visited the Cathedral of Immaculate Conception in Cuenca where I climbed up a long spiraling staircase to the roof. From there I could see out over the entire city. Cuenca is known for having maintained their colonial architecture so looking out at all the preserved buildings, you also see how the city was a few hundred years ago.
