It usually involves a cough and some other respiratory symptoms, sort of similar to COVID, but much more serious. However, TB is a curable disease. A person is more likely to become sick with TB if they are in poor health, including if they are underweight or malnourished. My research is about how the issue of TB can be improved through the use of food donations to patients who are sick. Previous researchers have found that feeding TB patients can really help people heal from TB. I am excited to see how else we can help people through this model of delivering health-related services.
Before I moved to Boston, I grew up in Dalton, Georgia, which is a small town in the northwest corner of the state. I’ll attach a photo for reference! Growing up, I loved to hike, run, spend time in nature, hang out with my family and play sports. I have continued to be really active, even on my adventures in India. I also enjoy cooking and trying new foods, and I can’t imagine a better place than India to explore cuisine. India is home to so many unique cultures, religions, languages, foods and traditions. Many of these vary by state or region, and sometimes even by neighborhood or community. I have already learned and experienced so much with my friends here, and it has only been two months!
Even though I really enjoy traveling, this is my first time living abroad. Since moving here, I have had so many new experiences. I have tried new foods, hiked in new mountain ranges, made new friends, learned a new language and adjusted to a way of living that is very different from the United States. At first, it felt very overwhelming, but over time I have become a part of my community and have gotten much more comfortable here.
