A cappuccino is made with espresso and steamed, foamed milk. In Italy, it is usually associated with breakfast or the earlier part of the day and is often eaten with a pastry. I usually like mine with a cornetto filled with crema.
Aperitivo is not really one specific food or recipe. It is more of a tradition. You order a drink and receive small savory foods with it. Depending on the place, that might mean something simple like chips and olives or a larger selection with sandwiches, meats, cheeses and other appetizers.
The seafood pasta I had in Cinque Terre included mussels, shellfish, tomato, herbs, and a light seafood sauce. Since Cinque Terre is right along the Ligurian coast, it makes sense that seafood is such a common part of the food there.
Vitello tonnato is made by cooking veal, slicing it very thinly, and serving it cold or at room temperature with a creamy sauce made with ingredients such as tuna, eggs, anchovies, and capers. On paper, it sounds like a strange combination, but when I actually ate it, the flavors felt much more balanced than I expected.
Food has made me realize that it is hard to talk about Italy as if it has one single cuisine. The food changes so much depending on the region, and the geography and history of each place have a lot to do with what people eat.
I noticed this especially in Liguria, where I tried both trofie al pesto and seafood pasta. Liguria is a narrow region squeezed between the mountains and the Mediterranean Sea.
