London Transportation

Introduction:

Have you ever ridden a train under the ground or sat on the top of a big red bus? In London, that is how many people get around the city every day. From hearing the famous “mind the gap” on the Tube to waving at a double-decker bus so it stops, getting around London is an adventure. When I tried it for the first time, I was a little nervous but also excited to explore the city in a whole new way!

How do people get around?:

People in London get around by using public transportation like the Tube and the famous red double-decker buses. The Tube is an underground train that runs throughout the city and connects different neighborhoods so people can get where they need to go. It moves pretty fast, ranging from 15 to 60 miles per hour. When people enter the station, they tap an Oyster card or Apple Pay at the gates to get through. After that, they follow the signs to the train line they need and wait on the platform until the train arrives. When the doors open, people get on and ride to their stop.

Another way people travel around London is by using the big, red double-decker buses. These buses have two levels, and many people like to sit upstairs because they can see the city from higher up. To get the bus to stop, people wave their hands as the bus approaches.
