Travel News

How far did I travel this week?:

This week, I commuted between Aachen and Würselen for work, which is a journey of around 5.4 miles. I also traveled as far as Düsseldorf, which is around 45 miles away, and Liège, Belgium, which is 25 miles away. Even though the distance to Liège is only about half of that to Düsseldorf, the train rides were both around an hour and a half long!

How far have I traveled on this journey so far?:

The farthest I have travelled so far is Leipzig, a city in the east of Germany that is around 350 miles away from Aachen, or 5 hours by train. Otherwise, I have mostly been staying around Aachen and Würselen. On the weekends, I like to travel to nearby cities like Cologne and Düsseldorf to meet up with friends and other language assistants in the area. Since Aachen lies on the German border, I have also ventured over to nearby cities in other countries such as Liège, Belgium, and Vaals, the Netherlands.

How did I get around this week?:

From Monday to Thursday, I work in Würselen. To get there, I take the bus from my apartment in Aachen. The ride to school takes around 30 minutes. Buses are the main form of public transport in Aachen, and some routes go all the way to neighboring towns in Belgium and the Netherlands. Though the bus is very handy for traveling longer distances, Aachen is very walkable, and I tend to go to most places on foot.
