The students became aware of their own unsustainable practices such as using single-use plastics or not composting their food scraps. More specifically, the students came up with examples of air, water and land pollution that is prevalent in their community.
The local community needs education to ensure that the next generation is prepared with the knowledge to perform the career they so choose and to be great citizens. Most of what they learn at school is based on something called the 17 Sustainable Development Goals from the United Nations (you can see them in the picture). I'll tell you about some of these goals when we have our virtual meeting.
Teachers and the local community are working really hard to meet this need. The students are learning about sustainable goals and practices that will help them in the future. After studying these things in class, the students actually get to see the garden grow food for them, use old tires for Christmas decorations and even compost their kitchen scraps at home. It is neat because they're not just learning about it, they're doing it, too!
