perspective pushes students to ignore practical, hands-on professions like plumbing and hairstyling and go for more white-collar jobs like professor or accountant, the Dutch encourage students to follow paths that suit their motivational and educational needs. Not all students are motivated to get a degree in sociology or chemistry or finance, so something more in-tune with their interests, like baking or flight attendant classes, might be more interesting and achievable for them. What I have learned is that the U.S. should value vocational professions more highly. These students are going to make a profession out of waitressing or hotel management, and these jobs are necessary in our modern-day society. I think we should value these professions and bring more vocational education opportunities to students in the United States. Not everyone is ready for (or interested in) getting a traditional college degree after high school, so why not provide another type of schooling that will suit their specific needs and desires? Waiters and cooks are just as important as doctors and researchers!
Would you be interested in going to a vocational school? What are you all interested in learning about? What would you all like to be when you get older?
