An Interview with My Jordanian Friends

How do you get around?:

Sajeda usually uses the bus. Semir, on the other hand, uses his car or a taxi. He also likes walking. He says that he believes Amman is a walkable city, but not for everyone, especially the elderly because of the hills.

What types of clothing do you like to wear?:

Both Semir and Sajeda wear everyday casual clothes. Sajeda likes to wear comfortable, stylish and modest clothes. Semir likes to wear colors. He noted that he's often the most colorful person amongst his friends. This is different from the clothing choices of most Jordanians, especially men, as they often wear neutral colors.

What do you like to do in your free time?:

Sajeda sees her free time as an opportunity to do nothing and relax. Usually this is on Friday's. When she likes to do nothing, she wakes up early to spend time alone in the morning. She either reads or sits in silence.

Semir likes to bike, walk in the park, and enjoy nature during his free time.

What language(s) do you speak? How do you say "Hello" in your language?:

Sajeda and Semir both speak Arabic. In Arabic, there are many ways to say "hello" and greet someone. Two ways are "Marhaba" (Hello) and "Assalamu Alaikum" (Peace be upon you). "Assalamu Alaikum" is often used among Muslims. The reply is "Wa Alaikum Assalam," which means "and upon you be peace."

Do you have pets?:

They both have cats. Sajeda's cat is named Oscar. And Semir has an almost 20-year-old cat named Raed, which means thunder in Arabic.
