It would be really easy to assume that everyone will speak English because so many people DO speak English. But like most struggles, it's important to take a deep breath and figure out how to say "mechanical pencil" in Czech. Using Czech allows me to understand what it's like for Czechs to speak in English: really hard! When I practice my Czech, I see how hard they try to understand through my American accent and sometimes, how excited they are that I'm learning Czech. By learning the phrases "do 10 push-ups" and "don't be stupid" in Czech, I've made more people laugh in a week than I have in 8 months. So, udělej decet kliku (do 10 push-ups) and nebuď blbej (don't be stupid)!
