Farewell Journal

That means that while I was teaching, I was also sharing my own culture with my students, teachers and friends. In return, I have learned so much about Indonesia -- from its diverse languages and customs to its traditions, holidays and everyday way of life. More than anything, I have learned about the kindness of people and the connections we can make when we open ourselves up to new experiences.

Writing to you all and speaking with you on Zoom has reminded me of when I was in middle school. Back then, travel felt like a distant dream -- something I only experienced through books and movies. I always thought that traveling was something other people did, and I never imagined I would one day have the chance to explore the world myself. But through opportunities like Fulbright and other scholarships, I’ve been able to explore the world, meet incredible people and experience life in ways I never imagined.

So, if there’s one thing I hope you take away from my journey, it’s this: Don’t ever limit yourself. No matter where you come from, no matter what challenges you face -- if you can dream about it, you can make it real. The world is full of possibilities, and you are capable of reaching for them.

Thank you for being part of my journey. I am so grateful to have shared my experiences in Indonesia with you, and I hope you continue to explore, dream big and believe in the incredible things you are capable of. This is not a goodbye -- just a “see you later.”
