Our News

What main languages are spoken here?:

The main language spoken in Budapest is Hungarian, which is the native language. Believe it or not, but Hungarian is one of the hardest languages to learn in the whole world! Luckily, many people also speak English, which makes it easier for visitors like me.

What type of money is used here?:

The money used in Budapest is called the Hungarian Forint. For every 1 American dollar, you can get about 340 Hungarian Forints. The conversion is confusing yet also pretty neat. In my pocket right now, I have 30,000 Hungarian Forints, which may seem like a lot; however, it only converts to about 90 dollars.

How much does a bottle of water cost?:

A bottle of water in Budapest usually costs around 300 Forints, which is about 90 cents in U.S. dollars. The price can change depending on where you buy it, though. I don't usually buy water here, like many, but instead carry my reusable water container around to save money.

What was the best meal this week?:

While in Vienna this past weekend, I tried their infamous Schnitzel, which is a piece of breaded pork typically served with potatoes and a salad. I ate with all 6 of my friends and our program manager. It was delicious, reminding me of breaded chicken cutlet that my mom makes for dinner, only this time slightly thinner.
