I considered myself an expert at public transportation before I came to Italy. I took the bus to school and to meet my friends in my home city of Yonkers and I conquered the subway system this past summer when I worked at a hospital in Manhattan! I was not sure what to expect when I came to Italy and was a little worried about not being able to read the signs because they would be in Italian. However, I remained confident in my prior traveling experience and was excited for the challenge. Little did I know, there was a new form of public transportation I had never seen before waiting for me in Italy - the tram.
There are many ways to get around in Italy. In the big cities such as Rome and Milan, cars and motorcycles are extremely popular, especially motorcycles! In the United States, I do not remember seeing motorcycles too often and when I did, it seemed that only younger men with the "biker gang" style rode them. However, in Italy, all types of people use motorcycles - a couple of times I even saw women in high heels riding motorcycles with no difficulty at all! In smaller settlements such as Orvinio, these modes of transportation are not as common and most people walk.
