Hi there! My name is Maya, and I’m spending this school year in Umea, a city in northern Sweden, on a Fulbright grant. Right now, the trees are all green and sunflowers are blooming in the park, so I can take part in some of my favorite activities, like hiking, running, and reading a good book outdoors. Before long, though, everything will be wearing a thick layer of snow--but I’m excited about that, too!
I actually came to Sweden for the cold winters! I study how plants can survive in difficult conditions, so Sweden’s freezing winters and hardy plants make it the perfect place to conduct further research. I'm from Indiana and I went to college at Princeton University in New Jersey, so I'm no stranger to snow, but this will definitely be a winter like none I've experienced yet.
