Ciao! Hello! My name is May Fahrenthold and I am a 19-year-old aspiring teacher from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma! This last fall, I started my freshman year at Dartmouth College in Hanover, New Hampshire. At first, I was scared about traveling across the country to study. However, I have found that there are many wonderful opportunities in the world if you stray a little farther from home and step out of your comfort zone!
I have not yet declared my major (a fancy way of saying I haven’t picked what I’m going to study), but I am thinking about pursuing a double major in mathematics and philosophy and a minor in education. Basically, this means I want to keep learning about math, study big questions in the world that we don’t yet have answers to, and learn how to share my knowledge by teaching effectively.
I was fortunate enough to be accepted into a program my college offers called The Full Immersion Rome Experience (FIRE). FIRE takes 18 students to Rome for three months to learn about the Italian language and culture. We arrived in the beginning of June and have already seen and learned so much. Whether it’s taking pictures of the Pantheon (an important Roman monument) or sharing the new facts I learn about Italy and its people, I’m excited to make you all a part of my journey!
