Howdy! My name is Megan Engle, and I am from Knoxville, Tennessee. I just graduated from the University of Tennessee, where I studied English, French, and political science. I picked these subjects because I am really interested in how people and groups interact with each other.
Right now, I am continuing to study political science as part of the Fulbright U.S Student Program in Belgium. I am a master's student at the Université libre de Bruxelles (Free University of Brussels) researching how Belgium's unique electoral laws affect life for women in different lingual groups. There is a system of legal rules here that support the equal representation of women and that guarantee representation of the three official language groups (Dutch, French, and German) in the government. My ultimate goal is to better understand how representation in the government impacts daily life outside of the government here.
There is so much to uncover here in Brussels outside of my research, too! With over 80 museums, about 20 castles, a few dozen of parks, and countless festivals, there's so much to explore in this 1043-year-old. I am looking forward to sharing all my adventures and life in Belgium with you!
