Studying abroad is a great opportunity to experience living in a new country for several months, and many colleges also help students get scholarships or additional financial aid to help finance a semester abroad. There are also many organizations and foundations that offer stipends and scholarships for American students to travel abroad to learn a new language, study or work. If you keep working hard in school and get good grades, more scholarship opportunities will be open to you.
I was able to have this wonderful experience becuase of a scholarship called Fulbright. This is for people who have grauated college, and it funds them to explore an acedmic interest outside of the United States. Hopefully, each of you continues learning a foreign language, whether it's what you're studying now or something you've never studied before! If you're interested in traveling to a country, it helps a lot to speak a little bit of the language. You can take classes or simply learn independently through books, language learning apps and YouTube videos. I actually started learning German through using the DuoLingo app. Learning German has helped me connect with people in my new community here in Dresden. It also makes my daily life here much easier since I can easily communicate with people around me. Learning a new language has opened a whole new world for me, and I hope that it can open a new world for you too.
