Corn is a very important crop in Mexico. It might be considered the base of agriculture in Mexico. Other foods that are prepared with corn include:
- elote: corn on the cob with mayonnaise and cheese. Sometimes called "street corn" in English.
- pozole: a soup made with pork and hominy (processed corn kernels)
- tamales: corn dough filled with meat, vegetables, and/or cheese, wrapped in a corn leaf, and steamed.
