However, I'll miss the hustle and bustle, the convenience of having a store on every corner, the freedom of living in a new place, and the opportunity to go places and explore each weekend on the tube. I'll also miss making wonderful memories with friends and by myself. I've become more confident and happy. I'll especially miss the food here and the markets (Shake Shack I've recently tried was amazing!)
I've also never had the opportunity or money to travel outside of the U.S, and being in Europe makes it so possible and affordable. (I was able to fly to Barcelona to see my best friend who is also studying abroad there, for less than the purchase of 5 coffees!)
I am here thanks to the Gilman Scholarship, which is a financial aid opportunity made for Pell Grant students that allows travel to become far more affordable and possible for students. If you attend university one day in the future, I encourage you to ask your advisor or teachers about opportunities to study abroad, and especially about resources such as the Gilman Scholarship - you can make the most amazing memories, and try McDonald's, Wendy's, Domino's and Pizza Hut wherever you go.
I would not have been able to go to London if I had not received this scholarship. I encourage you all to apply for it in the future and study abroad as well! Take that chance, follow your dreams, and don't let anyone tell you you cannot do something. There is always a way. You are all incredible, smart, enthusiastic students and I believe in you!
A big thank you to the students and Miss Sophie for sharing your time with me. Writing these articles and sharing my experiences is something I look forward to every week.
